By reading the title mini art, you may have guessed directly that you will see in the exhibition, artworks in mini or small sizes, on display. You are not wrong there, as they are mostly two dimensions with round about 10 x 10 cm in size.

Nowadays we often see Indonesian artists especially, pouring and expressing out their ideas on big size canvases. As some have their own perception that their work would be easier to sell and worth more, by making a bigger piece. Though, it really depends. In art, there is no limitation issue. Even tiny works could still be enjoyed and appreciated.

Art is about freedom and has no boundaries. The freedom of thinking, creativity, expression, and exploration. Art is within the soul of every human being and connected with people’s everyday life. Therefore no need to square up ourselves in boxes of social elements. Life is a cycle and goes around in a circle, until the end of time. As told in the story of an art performance, presented in the exhibition’s opening.

RBAA received positive response and participated by many young artists with limited age of 30 years old, residing in and outside Bali. 74 participants sent a shot of their artwork and CV, which later went through selections, where 29 artists were announced as nominees of the award. Selections were scored by Wayan Sujana Suklu S.Sn., Wayan Kun Adnyana S.Sn, Msi, Putu Wirata Dwikora, and art lecturers of ISI Denpasar.

Sunday evening, September 7th, 2008 was the ceremonial opening of this event, and took place at Tonyraka Art Gallery in Ubud, Bali owned by Anak Agung Tony Hartawan. RBAA was officiated by Gianyar Regent ; Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati, known as Cok Ace, who has deep interests in art.

By seeing the actual artworks of this competition, it really opens our eyes that especially Balinese artists has developed their works with quality. Infact they are on the way of becoming next generation’s maestros.

Last but not least, 5 winners of RBAA 2008 were announced, in that evening. This event was certainly a success, and we are hoping that RBAA will become a regular art award which will be conducted annually, in years to come.
